In a society that is ever-changing pace, Highgate recognizes the need to help learners to be confident, and adaptable. At our High School, we provide a positive and safe learning environment where the holistic development of learners is supported. Highgate facilitates the pursuit of academic excellence and the formation of positive character.
For our Grade 8 scholars, certain subjects are semesters, with summative examinations in June, in order to cover the workload more effectively. This approach to learning has found favor with teachers, scholars, and parents respectively.
By the end of Grade 9, our learners will have reached the end of the Junior Secondary and can make subject choices. Subjects offered at Highgate include Accounting, Business Studies, Geography, History, Life Science, Music, Physical Science, and Design and Technology.
In Grade 10, scholars start the Further Education and Training (FET) phase. For this phase, they must choose a minimum of six subjects at the end of Grade 9, which they will pursue to matriculate at the end of Grade 12. English Second Language, a First Additional Language (Afrikaans/German), and Maths or Mathematics are compulsory. The other three subjects will be chosen from the Natural Science, Social Science, or Commerce subjects. Highgate is committed to preparing all learners for completing their Grade 11 year successfully, ending with the NSSC(O-Level) offered on full and part time basis.
